Prorector Prof. Dr. Rainer Beedgen and Department Head Exhibition, Congress and Event Management Prof. Dr. Michael Dinkel ceremoniously presented the award DHBW Study Facility to epicto Director Michael Schenk on August 4. With this, they recognized the close and important cooperation of epicto GmbH, one of the leading companies in Event and Media Technology, as an external Study facility. The cooperation with the Baden-Wuerttemberg Cooperative State University (DHBW) Mannheim, together with the companies resident to the metropolitan region, makes it possible to relay current knowledge in the field of Media and Event Technology. Similar to a technical laboratory, students learn on site in a so-called show lab the planning, conceptualization and the pinpointed use of technical media for various types of events from concrete examples. In order to recognize this material and personal engagement, epicto GmbH was the first company awarded the distinction of DHBW Study Facility.
One of the characteristic features of the dual course of study at the DHBW, in contrast to a typical university course of study, is the use of practical teaching methods during the theoretical phases. Due to the necessity of practicality and up-to-date material being taught, individual courses are offered in cooperation with dual partners of the DHBW Mannheim. This is especially demonstrative in the Event technology module, which is part of the course of study Business Studies: Exhibition, Congress and Event Management as an elementary part to prepare for the challenges awaiting a future event specialist. For the modern relaying of knowledge and experience, current event technological equipment, highly-qualified staff, and appropriate premises are important prerequisites that cannot be offered at a university due to the rapid development in the branch. “This direct transfer of know-how and diverse first-hand experiences is priceless and we are pleased and thank epicto for these valuable glimpses into working life,” stressed Prof. Dr. Beedgen during his visit to the company.
The possibility to have lessons directly in the Germany-wide well-known Show Lab from epicto GmbH ideally supplements the learning concept and guarantees the students a sustainable learning experience that keeps up with the times. This Show Lab is regularly used for national starts like Udo Lindenberg and Peter Maffay and plans and simulates spectacular stage shows true to scale.
